Chocolate Malted Cookies

Feeling Content
Hearing Nada

I have been using this recipe for years. It is one of my absolute favorite cookies. The Prince requested these for his school birthday snack and I was happy to comply. I believe this recipe came from Taste of Home (but I am not totally sure about that).

Chocolate Malted Cookies

Ingredients
1 cup butter-flavored shortening
1 1/4 cups packed dark brown sugar
1/2 cup malted milk powder
2 tablespoons chocolate syrup
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chunks
1 cup milk chocolate chips

Directions
In a large mixing bowl, combine the first five ingredients and beat for 2 minutes.

Add egg.

Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture, mixing well after each addition.

Stir in chocolate chunks and chips.

Shape into 2-in. balls; place 3 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets.

Bake at 375° for 12-14 minutes or until golden brown.

Cool for 2 minutes before removing to a wire rack.

Yield: about 1 1/2 dozen.

**I pretty much make this recipe as is. I occasionally add pecans and I will add a extra chocolate chips if I have partial bags to use and such. I normally get closer to two dozen cookies than 18.

They sound really good. I love Taste of Home recipes. I don't like crazy stuff just down home cooking.
Take care, Chrissie

I've been baking breads & muffins to be distributed and I guess I could venture into cookies, I tried pies & didn't even eat one :-).
I'd add the pecans though. Great recipe.~Mary
